David and his boys gave the table a run through this past weekend. There were 4 leagues on the table, three of them created by 2 of Davids sons and a friend of theirs. Consequently we ended up with Daleks, Imperial Stormtroopers and Bob Murch cultists searching for Dr. Who and his tardis.  As I got there late just a couple of  pics.

Here some of the Cuiltists have a hard time subdueing two of Dr. Who's associates:
...and the hapless Daleks (not very good in a fist fight it turns out) seem to continually be drawing the ire of the locals:
On Sunday I got started on table number 2: "American Town". I keep calling it Chicago and David calls it San Francisco. Perhaps we should settle on Springfield...

The bulk of the buildings are from Sarissa Precision's City Block Deal (with some renedra Plastic fences):
Construction is underway. These are very nice MDF kits; fit is tight and sometimes requires a bit sanding and filing which is fine by me; I prefer that to having the walls wobble around when you are assembling them.

I am not completely certain on the layout yet. I am leaning towards a rail line bisecting the table with a right and wrong side of the tracks. There will be a small  field with a run down barn in it in one corner as this is the edge of town. I may also get one of Sarrissa's larger buildings to use as a warehouse or small industrial facility. Then it is on to street furniture.

Jungle Forest Bases Done

Tress are done. Truth be told, quite a few have been done for a while. I started playing around with aquarium plants and what not in about June. I just put the last touches on them this past weekend. The trees are Pegasus Hobbies Palm trees style A. The various jungle plants are from a wide variety. Some of them are trimmed down aquarium plants bought off ebay; some are from the artificial plant section of Michael's  and quite a bit is clump foliage and lichen from the local hobby store.

I added some static grass (Silifor 4mm Autumn green followed by 6mm Heki Autumn grass- it is quite blonde). The tufts are from leadbear- they are 4mm and similar in colour to Gamers' Grass Autumn tufts- and Gamers Grass 12mm bright green and light green tufts.

Then I piled all the trees on. I wanted it to look like an impenetrable jungle but still be able to move figures around so I used 4Ground terrain bases completely loaded them with shrubbery. There may be too much jungle on the table to make it playable but we can always pull some off- better that then wishing we had more.

I have made a start on the bridge; I may have to make two. I might make a couple of small pieces for plot points: I am thinking a stone idol and a shrine of the ancestors - some mossy skulls on a slab of stone.

The table is very nearly done. I have added forest floor debris and plants along the creek and the cliff edges. The forest floor debris is a mix of fir bark (the kind you buy at a garden store for orchids) chopped up in a coffee grinder; mixed with some Woodland Scenics coarse turf, medium and light green; and  some cut up Ashland Raffia. The plants are a mix of Woodland Scenics lichen, Woodland Scenics Clump foliage (medium and light green); Gamers Grass 10mm tufts and various plastic aquarium plants cut down to 2-3mm. The vines are Ashland green Moss.

I have to add some static grass flock and lastly I will pour the resin for the creek. Next up, however, the jungle trees. I have a number made already but more to get through this week.

A second update in three days??? Unheard of! With Mrs. Codsticker at work all weekend I was able to get quite a bit done over Sunday and Monday am. Several layers of drybrushing and washes adds some depth to the cliff face and sand.

Some of the rock looks more realistic than others; as this was my first large foam carving endeavour I will make a note of what worked and what didn't.
This section looks less like a rock face than real rocks unfortunately :

I have made a start on some jungle terrain. Still several more trees (from Pegasus) and bases (from 4ground) to make.
Here are a couple of Bac Ninh miniatures investigating the stairs (what they are doing so far from Honshu I have no idea...):
Next up is to detail some of the table with flock and static grass and few low shrubs against the cliff. Then Pour the river.

Progress has been made. A layer of plaster cloth (in this case, shop towels soaked in plaster) on the flat surfaces with the rock faces covered with Sculptamold' grey paint mix.

That was followed by layer of glue and sand; followed by another layer of thinned glue and finally a coat of house paint tinted to match Ceramcoat's Desert Sand.  Any cliff face or rocks not covered by the Sculptamold/paint mix was given a coat of house paint tinted to Cermacoat's Medium Grey. The creek at the base of the waterfall was painted very dark green and blended into the desert sand. I may continue that on further but I plan on covering the water areas with green-tinted clear resin and I don't want the creek too dark. Both the sand areas and the cliff face will get a series of dry-brushed paint and washes to add depth and colour.
